Tender Issued to Operate 100 New Buses

The Greater Amman Municipality has issued a tender for the operation, management and maintenance services of 100 public transport buses for its subsidiary, Amman Vision Modern Transport, according to a statement issued by the Municipality on Sunday.

According to the statement, "Amman Vision Modern was formed under Transport Law No. 19 of 2017, duly authorised by the Greater Amman Municipality to provide bus services in the city of Amman."

It added: "The company has purchased the buses, while 35 buses will be purchased in the second half of 2019. The scope of services for the company will include appointing an operator to manage and maintain the buses on 57 routes designated by the company."

The Mayor of Amman, Yousef Al-Shawarbeh, said in an earlier statement that "creating a public transport system that serves citizens with high efficiency and in a civilised manner, on a par with the cities of the developed world, is the foremost challenge facing the city of Amman, and one the Municipality is seeking to overcome through its plans in this field."

The Municipality requires the operator "to have a partnership with an international operator and a local public transport operator, with management resting with the international operator, and to have no less than three years of practical experience within the five years preceding its participation in the tender, with that practical experience covering the planning, management and monitoring of daily bus operations and maintenance services."

At an earlier session, the Amman Municipal Council approved the registration of the buses - 40 large buses and 60 medium buses - in the name of Amman Vision Transport, enabling it to work on developing public transport and to carry out its tasks to the fullest.
